A Binghamton restaurant developer is moving forward with his latest downtown project as city officials have finally approved an outdoor sign after a lengthy delay.

Station 45 American Chop House will be located on the west end of the historic Lackawanna Train Station on Lewis Street.

Developer Mark Yonaty said the exterior sign for the future restaurant was authorized by Binghamton's Commission on Architecture and Urban Design last week. The approval came about nine months after he submitted an application.

Although all commission members praised the sign, the city refused to give Yonaty permission to install it because of technical issues. Zoning officer Greg Buell issued a citation to Yonaty after the sign was erected without approval.

Work continued inside the historic railroad station during the sign dispute. Yonaty on Monday said he expects construction work will be completed within four weeks.

Kitchen equipment then will be installed in a process that likely will take another week or so. Chairs, tables and other furnishings also will be set up.

The restaurant's Indoor seating will be augmented by an outdoor dining area.

Yonaty said hiring a team of workers for all of the positions in the new business will be a challenge. He said he now hopes to have the place open by mid-summer.
