Binghamton Boscov's Building Original Exterior May Be Seen Again

While millions of dollars in updates are planned inside the Boscov's store in downtown Binghamton, there also may be some changes made to the outside of the structure. Jim Boscov, the CEO of the Pennsylvania-based department store chain, told WNBF News "There's serious talk about it." He said he's discussed the concept of removing the current exterior with Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, who favors the idea.

Controversial Chenango Bridge Tobacco Shop to Open

A tobacco and vape store that had been opposed by some Chenango Bridge residents is expected to start operating soon in a former bank building. The Smart Smoker shop will use the site that had been home to a Citizens Bank branch until two years ago. Some people who live nearby had tried to prevent the store from setting up at the location.

$100 Million Investment for Repaving Includes NY Southern Tier

On November 27th, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $100 million in funding has been released to support the renewal of Empire State roadways that have been impacted by extreme weather. According to the release from Governor Hochul, in the Southern Tier, 11 projects are slated for repair. Suspect in Killing of Endicott Man Now in Broome County Jail

The man who police believe gunned down an Endicott resident in a Huron Campus parking lot is being held on a murder charge. Authorities said 24-year-old Nathaniel Williams Jr. of Endicott was being held at Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson. No bail had been set for Williams, who was arraigned shortly after he was taken into custody following a standoff on Binghamton's West Side.

Tioga Downs Awards $1.5M To Southern Tier New York Nonprofits

As part of Giving Tuesday, $1.5 million dollars in grants were awarded to 100 local area non-profit organizations in The Southern Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania through the Tioga Downs Regional Community Foundation. According to the release, the non-profit organizations are located in Broome, Chemung, and Tioga Counties in New York State, and Bradford County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The announcement was made at Tioga Downs Casino and Resort in Nichols, New York.

Binghamton Man Found Dead in His Home After SWAT Team Deployed

A Binghamton man apparently killed himself after city police were sent to his home to check on his welfare. Authorities said the man's body was found in the basement of the house at 39 Travis Avenue on the East Side. According to police, an officer was sent to the residence at 9:20 a.m. Friday. Police were unable to contact the man at the house or by phone. After officers entered the home, a gunshot was fired from the basement. It passed through the basement ceiling into the first floor.

New York Senator Announces Legislation To Crack Down On Robocalls

U.S. Senator for New York - Kirsten Gillibrand, headed up a conference, noting that 4 billion robocalls every month are made to Americans, and many are from scammers. Now that artificial intelligence is growing fast, phone scams have become more sophisticated. One way is where a scammer mimics or impersonates the voice of a person's loved one with the intention to steal money or information.

Just Opened: Vestal's $7.5 Million Fire Station Now in Service

After several years of debate and discussion, a newly-constructed Vestal Fire Department station has gone into operation. Firetrucks and other equipment used by firefighters have been moved into the $7.5 million facility off Jensen Road. The new Station 4 is located just south of the Kohl's store in the Parkway Plaza. The complex was built on a three-and-a-half acre site where an American Legion clubhouse had stood for about six decades. The Vestal Fire District acquired the property in 2018.

Searches And Warrants Uncover Illegal Items In Binghamton New York

A search warrant was executed on November 27th, 2023 at 97 Pine Street, Apartment 1 in Binghamton, New York by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force according to a release by the Binghamton Police Department. During the search warrant, investigators found a loaded 9mm Glock brand handgun, a .45 Colt/ 410 shotgun Bond Arms handgun, one high capacity 9mm handgun magazine, and ammunition for both handguns.

"IBM Collection" Off Limits as Endicott Museum Remains Shut Down

The fate of a unique collection of IBM Endicott memorabilia remains uncertain as a village museum has extended its closure without explanation. The Endicott History and Heritage Center on Washington Avenue was suddenly shut down in late October. Signs at the museum, which normally is open on Saturdays, indicated it would be closed through December 2. But new signage indicates it will not open at least through January.
