Renovation projects at two Broome County Burger King restaurants are nearing completion.

The locations on East Main Street in Endwell and Ash Road in Vestal closed in late July for the chain's nationwide makeover project.

Burger King has announced it's spending hundreds of millions of dollars to modernize most of its restaurants in the United States.

The Endwell and Vestal locations are the first in Broome County to get what the company calls its "Sizzle" redesign.

The new format includes a sleeker-looking exterior and interior changes that incorporate self-ordering kiosks.

Where possible, another lane is being added to single-lane drive-thrus. The Vestal restaurant will operate with two drive-thru lanes when its reopens. The Endwell location's drive-thru will still have only one lane because of space limitations.

The Endwell Burger King is expected to resume operations in the next week or two.

The Vestal remodeling project will take a bit longer to complete. It's not clear whether that restaurant will reopen in late October or early November.

Three other Broome County Burger King restaurants are scheduled to be remodeled next year. Those locations are at 290 Main Street in Binghamton, 464 Court Street in Binghamton and 1250 Front Street in the town of Chenango.
