New Neighborhood Grocery Store Opens on Binghamton’s West Side
Binghamton West Side residents are discovering a new business that has opened its doors at the site of a family-owned convenience store.
Cavanaugh's Grocery closed last June after operating at 67 Leroy Street for about 75 years.
Longtime customers were disappointed when the store didn't reopen after what initially was billed as a "summer break."
A few months after Cavanaugh's closed, people in the neighborhood were pleased to hear the news that a new store was being planned for the spot.
The new business - M&A Grocery & Deli - is now open. It's owned by Mohsin Alsaidi of Johnson City.
Alsaidi told WNBF News that he began making plans to open a store on the West Side about a year ago. He said he's excited that the shop now is operational after renovation work to the space was completed.
Alsadi said many people are reacting enthusiastically as they discover the store has opened.
The store offers a variety of items, including coffee, sandwiches and cold cuts. It's open seven days a week.
