Old Binghamton High School Entrance Has A New Look

After more than a century, a front entranceway at Binghamton High School has been modernized.

Construction on the east side of the building on Main Street was completed recently.

The project was designed to provide a dedicated entrance for use during special events at the high school, which opened in 1915. It will offer easier access to the art gallery and to the Helen Foley Theater.

The new entrance won't be used by students during normal school hours, according to News 34.

A historical marker honoring Rod Serling was removed during the construction project. That plaque has been repainted and installed at a prominent location close to Main Street.

Serling, who was the creator of The Twilight Zone television series, was a member of the Binghamton Central High School class of 1943.

The historical marker originally was installed at the school in June 1986. Some Serling fans were concerned when the marker "vanished" in 1989. It was reported missing after city workers removed it for cleaning. It "reappeared" a few days later.
