Iconic Binghamton Small Business Ordered to Move After 53 Years
The husband and wife who've operated their own business in the Binghamton Plaza for more than a half-century have finally received official notification that they must leave.

A FedEx envelope containing two letters from the city economic development director and the plaza owners informing the owners of Leather Corner Shoe Repair that remaining leases at the property are being terminated.
Timothy and Philomena Harris are city residents. They've been proud of the loyal customer base they've established since they opened their small shop in 1972.
They aren't sure what they'll do next now that city officials are moving forward with plans to demolish the plaza.
The letter they received from Binghamton economic development director Sarah Glose thanked the Leather Corner owners for their "cooperation and engagement as we work toward a redevelopment effort that strengthens the entire community."
Glose's letter assured them that "we understand the significance of this transition."
The Harrises have been hearing from many of their customers since this week's announcement that their store will soon be demolished. Some have called and some have stopped by the shop to chat and thank them for their personal service.
They've been advised that there's a spot for their shop in a building on Clinton Street in the First Ward.
At this point, they haven't decided what they'll do.
