The man convicted in the arson death of a 17-year-old Binghamton resident has been sentenced to up to life in prison.

40-year-old Jeremiah Raub of New Milford was sentenced Friday in Broome County Court in connection with the fire that killed Jeffrey Aissa.

Raub was sentenced by Judge Carol Cocchiola to 20 years to life on his murder and arson convictions.

Aissa was inside his family's home at 20 Milford Street on Binghamton's East Side when the place was engulfed by a fast-moving fire on March 17, 2011.

The blaze started around 3:30 a.m. on that St. Patrick's Day. Six of the seven people who were home at the time managed to escape. But Aissa died inside the burning house.

A jury convicted Raub last August of one count of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree arson. It was the second trial in the case. A jury last January had been unable to reach a unanimous verdict in the first trial.

Evidence presented during the trials indicated Raub set a fire in a recycling bin at the Milford Street residence.

Binghamton police arrested Raub in March 2023, more than 12 years after the deadly blaze.
