Abandoned Vestal Nursing Home Back on the Market
A flood-damaged former nursing home complex in Vestal that was expected to be turned into apartments is again for sale.
Developer Isaac Anzaroot had proposed a senior housing project for the old Vestal Nursing Center at 860 Vestal Road.
In 2018, town supervisor John Schaffer said he had met with Anzaroot to discuss what was described as a $20 million project.
The nursing home sustained extensive damage from the September 2011 flood. A new facility was constructed on West Sheedy Road in Vestal to take its place.
The 100,000-square-foot Vestal Road building is back on the market. Broome County real estate agent John Maczko has posted "For Sale" signs on the property. An online listing features an asking price of $2.4 million.
In October 2022, Anzaroot told WNBF News he still hoped to move forward with his plan to create a 128-unit senior apartment complex at the former nursing home.
He said the project was stalled because a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes proposal was rejected.
Anzaroot had acquired the property for $120,000 in October 2015. He could not be reached for comment on Thursday.
People who live near the abandoned nursing home have complained about people trespassing at the site.
The property was last in the news when an Endicott man's body was found in a parking lot adjacent to Route 17 in October 2023.
