I'm always on the lookout for a new place to visit, no matter if it's while I'm on vacation, maybe a day trip, or just something local that's fun to visit. We have lots of options of great places to visit from museums to carousels and beyond.

One thing I like to visit when I'm in another community is aquariums. I haven't visited many, but have been to the aquarium in New Orleans, Disney, and the various exhibits at Seas World, although it's been a long time since I have visited an aquarium.

I wasn't sure if there are any aquariums close to the Binghamton area, so my research came up with a couple. One is rather new - the Electric City Aquarium and Reptile Den in Scranton, Pennsylvania. And there's a nice aquarium in Niagara Falls as well, the Via Aquarium in Schenectady, and the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn.

But wouldn't it be nice if there was a cool aquarium that's, say, a bit closer to the Binghamton area? Well, your wish has been granted. According to Syracuse.com, Onondaga County lawmakers voted (narrowly) for a 600,000-gallon aquarium to be built at the Syracuse Inner Harbor. The new aquarium will help increase tourism and be a great asset to the Inner Harbor.

The cost of this aquarium in Syracuse will be $85 million. The new aquarium is expected to bring in around half a million visitors each year. But we will have to wait a bit before visiting. Syracuse.com reports that Onondaga County officials are looking to have the construction begin in 2023 with an opening to the public sometime in 2024. The aquarium will take about a year and a half to be constructed.
