As many of you know, I am someone who has been adopting dogs for many decades. Around the year 2000, my wife educated me about Greyhounds and how there were many organizations in the country and around the world as well, refusing and adopting these beautiful creatures.

And so we have for more than 20 years, along with our Whippet who thinks he is a Greyhound. But it doesn't matter what type of dog it is when it comes to adopting. There are so many dogs from so many different breeds awaiting their forever home, and the love that your family can provide.

I always suggest to people who are considering adopting a pet (cat or dog or whatever) to consider visiting a local shelter. You just may fall in love with one or more waiting to go home with you.

The Broome County Humane Society recently welcomed 19 homeless dogs from Florida that had been in shelters impacted by Hurricane Ian. They are part of over 120 dogs and cats who were rescued and flown to different parts of the country.

The Broome County Humane Society states that these loving dogs will soon be available for adoption, and will be announced on their website and social media platforms.

By the way, the Broome County Humane Society has posted on its Facebook page that they are in need of volunteers to walk dogs. The times are between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on Saturdays. If you can carve out some time to volunteer and walk dogs, give them a call at 607-724-3709.
