Sheriff’s officials say 29-year-old Aliester Wells-Burlingame is accused of driving drunk with a passenger under the age of 17 in the car when he crashed on Route 215 near Bennie Road in the Town of Cortlandville.

Authorities say Wells-Burlingame was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra north on Route 215 at around 1:14 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossing into the southbound lane and going off the road.  The car sheared a utility pole in two, causing power lines to come down across the road.  Route 215 was closed for about two hours.

Wells-Burlingame was evaluated by medics at the scene while two passengers were taken to Guthrie-Cortland Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.

Officials say the Ithaca man was found to be intoxicated and had been convicted of drunk driving within the past ten years.

He’s charged with felony driving while intoxicated, felony driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and violations of unlawful possession of marijuana, speeding, driving across hazard markings and unlicensed operator.

He’s been ordered to appear in Town of Cortlandville Court later this month.
