The owner of a unique Owego gift shop is making plans to retire and businessman Adam Weitsman intends to acquire the building where the store is located to develop a new restaurant.

Weitsman said he has a contract to acquire the Front Street property that's now home to the Hand of Man store, which is owned by Patricia and Roger Hansen.

Patricia Hansen said she intends to close her store sometime next spring after serving the community for 45 years.

Although the property sale hasn't been finalized, Weitsman said he is looking forward to opening the restaurant just east of the Court Street bridge.

Weitsman initially intended to house the new business in a one-story building that would have been constructed on the unused property that he's owned for the past decade.

His revised concept would require less construction and would provide for more outdoor seating for the restaurant.
