Broome County Sheriff’s officials say 29-year-old Wesley Booker was stopped on Interstate 81 at around quarter after 4 in the morning for going 104 miles an hour on the highway but took off as a Deputy approached the vehicle, ending up exiting onto Bevier Street and Broad Avenue, going over 90 miles an hour when he lost control and hit the pole at Broad and Court Streets.

Authorities say Booker and his passenger, Jasira Nur ran off and the Honda Accord burst into flames.

Booker was found nearby and Police K-9s tracked Nur to an alley where she was hiding.

Booker is charged with misdemeanor counts of unlawfully fleeing a police officer, obstructing governmental administration, reckless driving, unlawful possession of marijuana and several vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was released and ordered to appear in Binghamton City Court at a later date.

Nur was not charged.

Authorities say neither was injured in the crash and Binghamton Firefighters were able to put out the car fire in a matter of minutes.
