Kayla is a wonderful little 11-year-old girl out of Spencer,NY that suffers Pneumococcal Meningitis. She was diagnosed when she was two days old. Because of it she has multiple disabilities and is confined to her wheelchair. Since May is Mobility Awareness Month, the same named website will be giving away three wheelchair accessible vehicles. One to a caregiver, another to a senior, and the last in the "general category". Kayla's mom, Susie, is trying to win the caregiver awarded van! Here's what Susie has to say about why she needs the van:

"My name is Susie and this is our daughter, Kayla. Kayla is a beautiful, 11-year-old little girl. She’s such an inspiration to everyone she meets and has the most beautiful, loving soul. Winning a wheelchair accessible van for our daughter would not only mean the world to us, but it would mean so much more for Kayla. It would make travel to and from doctor appointments so much easier and allow us to do more things together as a family. Our current minivan needs a lot of repairs and is no longer safe to drive nor is it suitable for Kayla and her needs.

She is now 11 years old and a big sister to two younger brothers, ages 9 & 4. She is 100% dependent and has severe brain damage, which is a result from the meningitis and has suffered daily from a seizure disorder these past 11 years. She also has high muscle tone in her arms and legs & low muscle tone in her trunk and neck which prevent her from being able to sit up on her own. She cannot walk or talk and has severe profound hearing loss along with cortical visual impairment.

Kayla’s condition is life-long and she will most likely never be independent. As her parents and care givers we simply manage her health and any associated conditions with her disorder the best we can. Kayla’s cognitive ability and other health issues complicate her quality of life. She has come such a long way but still needs help in gaining independence in all of her daily activities. There is nothing we won’t do to help improve our daughter’s quality of life. Please take a moment and vote for Kayla. Thanks so much!

Sincerely, Kayla’s Mommy' - Mobility Awareness Month
