It's going to be a hot and humid week in the Southern Tier with a Heat Advisory for Tioga and Tompkins Counties beginning today from 1 p.m until 8 p.m on Tuesday. It may not officially be a Heat Advisory for Broome County but it'll be plenty hot. Temps could be touching 90 every day this week and we won't catch much of a break this weekend with temperatures in the 80's.

So how do you try and stay cool? In the past, if you didn't have air conditioning, you could go to Dunkin' or the movies to catch a break but the coronavirus pandemic has changed that.

If there is a library open in your area, that could be a good idea. Here are some other things to keep in mind:

As always, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty. Cutting back on caffeine or alcohol isn't a bad idea either.

Eat smaller meals more often, instead of two or three big meals.

If you have to be outdoors, take breaks, and don't be alone. Make sure someone is with you or they know where you are.

This seems obvious but don't ever leave kids or pets alone in the car.

If you think that you may be suffering heat stroke, heat exhaustion, or heat cramps, go here to find the warning signs and what you should do next.

Do your best to keep cool this week because we want you around for a long time.
