There are certain houses that don’t just feel like any old home. They feel like a moment frozen in time, like the rest of the world kept moving, but it never got the memo.

That place is my parents’ house in the Albany area. A Victorian home full of history, full of character, full of original crown molding, and a staircase that creaks in exactly the right way. The furniture, the décor, the little touches that make visitors stop mid-sentence and just look around, it’s like stepping straight into another century.

The Day Hollywood Walked Through Our Front Door

One day, a crew from The Gilded Age showed up at my parents’ door. And not just for a quick look around. Set designers and producers walked through every single room, cameras out, taking photos and video of everything they could find. The layout, the furniture, the original details, even the décor. All of it was carefully documented for possible use in a future season.

I don’t know how else to describe it except surreal,  like, I had to keep reminding myself this was actually happening. Knowing a place that has always just been home, the place that smells like holiday dinners and old wood floors, suddenly being seen as a potential backdrop for a major HBO series. It’s a strange and beautiful feeling. Weird, but the good kind of weird.

Then Life Had Other Plans

Since that visit, things have shifted in ways none of us saw coming. My dad passed away. My dad was the kind of person who knew every creak in that house, every quirk, every story behind every room. There are no words that really cover losing someone like that. It doesn’t just change your heart. It changes the air in the house. It changes the way you look at every room, every piece of furniture, every little thing that used to just be in the background. Suddenly, it all means something. There are decisions to make, things to sort through, a whole life that has to be handled piece by piece, even when you’re not ready.

So even if the opportunity came back around, even if The Gilded Age called tomorrow and said they wanted to film there, I don’t know if my mom would be in a place to say yes. And that’s okay.

But Here’s Where Your Story Begins

If you’ve ever watched The Gilded Age and felt that pull, that quiet wish that you could somehow step into that world, this could be your moment. Production is gearing up for Season 4 right here in Upstate New York, and they're actively looking for extras. Casting is being handled by Grant Wilfley Casting, Inc., and they need people from Upstate New York to help bring those 1880s scenes to life.

What to Know Before You Raise Your Hand

There are a few things to know before digging into the casting call information so that you’re not caught off guard:

  • You must be 18 or older
  • You’ll need to be comfortable wearing period clothing (think wool and corsets)
  • Hair and facial hair may need to be adjusted to match the era
  • No visible tattoos or piercings
  • You must be of Black or African descent
  • No modern nails like acrylics or gel polish

Filming is expected to take place in Troy on June 9th and 10th. Production is already underway in New York City and will be heading to Newport, Rhode Island, after that, so this is all moving fast.

A Different Kind of What If

It’s funny how fast things change. A few months ago, the what-if for my family was this big, exciting thing. What if our home ended up on TV? What if millions of people saw these rooms, this furniture, this life my parents built? Now, we may never know the answers to those questions. But for you, the what-if is just getting started. Your what-if might be walking onto a set, dressed in another era, becoming part of something that people all over the country are going to watch. And I think that would be a pretty remarkable story to be a part of.
