Will Your Baby Be the First Gerber Baby From New York?
Will your little one be the next Gerber baby and represent the great state of New York?
Shortly after the Gerber company was founded in Michigan in 1928, it asked the nation to send in photos of adorable babies so that they could select one to appear in its advertisements.
It would be an artist from Connecticut named Dorothy Hope Smith who would send in a charcoal sketch of her neighbor's four-month-old baby and that baby with the big round eyes and cherub face would become the one a nation would grow up with and know as being synonymous with Gerber.
For fifty years, few were sure who the face of Gerber belonged to, many believing that it was simply a sketch made from the imagination of an artist, but in 1978 the world learned the face belonged to a very real person and that person was a retired English teacher named Ann Turner Cook.
For the last 12 years, Gerber has invited families to submit a photo of the happy baby in their life, and the same rings true for 2022, however, time is running out for you to submit a photo or video of your smiling and giggling baby as entries must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022.
While a New York baby has yet to win Gerber's photo search since it was launched 12 years ago, Gerber has notably selected twin spokesbabies, a spokesbaby with Down syndrome, a Hmong spokesbaby, and an adopted spokes baby.
Gerber's photo search is open to little ones from newborn to four years old. In a press release, Gerber stated that it is looking for babies who have "a playful smile that can light up the room. An irresistible giggle is strongly preferred, as well as an undeniably loveable personality."
Will your little one be the next Gerber baby and represent the great state of New York? Don't forget that submissions are due THIS Thursday, April 14, 2022.
