I'm around 15 years away from the age at which I can become a full-fledged member of AARP, so when I tell people that I already am an AARP member, they look at me like I have three heads and then accuse me of lying. But I'm not.

What most people don't know is that AARP has a special junior member program where people under the age of 50 are able to join the program and take advantage of most of the same member incentives that those members over the age of 50 do.

While you do need to be an AARP member to take advantage of many of their offers, you don't need to be a member to take advantage of their Tax-Aide program.

Now through April 18th, the AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide.  Now in its 49th year, the AARP Tax-Aide program is the biggest free tax assistance and preparation service in the United States and is open to everyone, but especially to those who are 50-years-old and older.

In a press release, AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel said,  "We’re proud to continue this nearly 50-year-old tradition of helping New Yorkers navigate the tax season. Tax preparation can be a hassle and an expense, especially for older New Yorkers on fixed incomes. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide can make tax season a little easier—and literally less taxing—for anyone in need of help.”
