We've all got into a new vehicle and had to make adjustments before we put the car into drive. We check the mirrors and adjust our seats before we go. I recently drove a rental car and I know how long it took before I was comfortable behind the wheel.

I can only imagine what it might be like for an older adult. On Tuesday, August 22nd, the Broome West Senior Center wants to help the mature adults in our life. They are hosting a CarFit event in their parking lot at 2801 Wayne Street in Endwell from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

What Is CarFit?

CarFit is about making sure that older drivers and their vehicles work together for a smoother drive for everyone. AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association are organizing this event.

It's a national program that gives a quick and thorough check to see if older drivers and their cars are on the same page. They've got a 12-point checklist that covers everything from vision to flexibility, strength, range of motion, and even adjusting things like size and height.

Why Is CarFit important?

As we get older, there are changes that make us feel uncomfortable and less in control when we hit the highway and that's where CarFit comes in. They make sure your vehicle is adjusted just right for your body.

We are talking about the seat belt, steering wheel position, and mirrors adjusted to perfection. This way, if the unfortunate happens and you're in a crash, you're good to go.

You'll even have a chance to meet and talk with a CarFit Technician that will work their magic on you...and your car. It's quick, easy and the best part is that it's COMPLETELY FREE!

There is a lot more to safe driving than how you drive. Pre-registration is encouraged but not needed as walk-ins are welcome. If you have questions or need more info, call them at (607) 778-2807.
