Here's a question that I didn't give much thought until my kids came along. Is my child's car seat installed correctly? I thought that I just took the seat belt strap and, pulled it behind the seat and latched it. There is a lot more to it then that and it could have cost me my kids life.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, nearly 73% of child restrains are not installed or used correctly. That not a mistake that we can afford to make. Here's another stat: Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13.

That's why it's so important to choose and use the right car seat correctly every time your child is in the car. Health officials say car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages one to 13 years old and correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk by as much as 71 percent.

What's your next step? Here's one thing that you can do. This Sunday, June 2nd from 2 to 7 p.m. the Pennsylvania Sate Police will be conducting FREE child safety seat inspections at the Troop R Gibson Station, in New Milford.

State Police NHTSA Certified Technicians will give a free seat check along with educational materials. Inspections are first come, first serve. When you come to the event, you should bring your child safety safety seat, the child, the vehicle the seat will be installed in and the manuals for both the car and the car seat.
