It's not uncommon for my husband to have a mandatory work schedule on major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas and while we won't get to spend the entire day together as a family on the holidays he has to work, we will get a couple of hours which is more than a lot of families will get and we've decided instead of dwelling on sadness of not having a full holiday together, we're going to make the most of the time we do have.

If you're feeling frustrated that you or your spouse have to work on a holiday this won't bring a lot of comfort, but it might provide some, there are literally thousands of other people in the same situation. According to Business News Daily, 33 percent of companies in the United States have scheduled their employees to work on Thanksgiving and/or on Black Friday.

It's not all terrible, though PR Newswire reports that a Bloomberg study found 91 percent of all of the companies who make their employees work Thanksgiving or the day after, plan to give their employees either overtime pay or double pay.

Only 9% of companies will have employees work with no extra bonus money, which is pretty miserable. If you're one of those people who will be working Thanksgiving and/or Black Friday and won't be getting any bonus money or comp time for your hard work, I genuinely feel for you and hope that you're at least able to squeeze in a little time with those you love. Thank you for doing what you do and for keeping things running.
