Flood Watch Issued for Binghamton Region

Forecasters say a combination of rain and melting snow could cause flooding in part of the Twin Tiers.

The National Weather Service office at the Greater Binghamton Airport has issued a flood watch for the region. The watch is to be in effect from noon Tuesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.

Snow from the massive storm nearly two weeks ago will continue to melt. That melting along with occasional light rain will cause significant rises on rivers and tributaries in the Southern Tier and in northern Pennsylvania.

Forecasters are advising area residents that there is a chance for minor river flooding in the north branch Susquehanna and Upper Delaware basins.

Conklin and Vestal along the Susquehanna River in Broome County may be vulnerable. Waverly in Tioga County also could experience some flooding. Other potentially vulnerable areas include Sherburne one the Chenango River and Walton on the West Branch Delaware River.
