I'm talking about Mike Colsten and the "Mike Colsten Remembered 51" race at Five Mile Point Speedway. The Late Model Track Champion raced through the 2018 season and passed away in early 2020. The first memorial race was held later that year without spectators because of the Covid pandemic.

Colsten was one of the winningest drivers of all time at the track and he drove with the #51 on the side of his race car for his entire career. He was one of the original All-Time 50 Greatest Drivers at Five Mile Point Speedway.

His first Modified victory at the track was in 1978 with his final win at the speedway on opening day in 2017. In fact, opening day at Five Mile Point was very good to Colsten with six opening day wins at the speedway.

In 2022, Five Mile Point Speedway announced that after 72 years, the track was going to close, so that would bring an end to this special race. When Five Mile Point reopened on a limited basis for the 2023 season, plans were put into place to honor the popular driver with the "Mike Colsten Remembered 51" race.

The green flag flies beginning at 7:15 p.m. and Colsten's son, Joey will be participating in the race and will be driving with #51 in his dad's honor. Joey has five career feature wins at Five Mile Point Speedway and is looking to add to that total in the race that remembers and honors his dad.

Joey has five career feature wins at Five Mile Point Speedway and would certainly love to add to that total in the race remembering his dad. There will also be a collection for the Junkyard Jet, Doug Worthing at the race track with some of the Worthing family in attendance.

Five Mile Point Speedway is at 100 Francis Street in Kirkwood, go here for all the details for this special race.
