Fire Destroys Port Dickinson Family’s Home
Broome County Fire Investigators are looking into the cause of an early morning blaze February 19 that destroyed a family's home in Port Dickinson and sent one resident to a Syracuse hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were hampered by frozen hydrants as they battled the blaze at 755 State Street near the intersection with Newton Street.
The fire was reported at 1:15 a.m. Sunday and burned for hours.
Broome County Emergency Services officials say Port Dickinson firefighters were joined by Hillcrest, City of Binghamton, Five Mile Point, Chenango, Chenango Bridge, Port Crane and Sanitaria Springs firefighters battling the flames that engulfed the single-family home.
The age and condition of the resident who was flown to the Syracuse hospital for treatment was not available early February 21.
Emergency dispatchers say firefighters had to return to the rubble several times during the day Sunday to put out flare ups.
