Finding Out You Have Cancer at Your Rehearsal Dinner
Things have been so different in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. We were hoping that it was only going to take two weeks to flatten the curve but now we are into the ninth month.
However during this Christmas season, many are trying to bring some happy moments to get us through the end of the year. Afton is having an "Afton in Winter" celebration with an Upside Down Parade and a pancake "Breakfast Without Santa" to benefit the Afton VFW Post 3529.
If you go up another exit on 88, you'll come to Bainbridge, where this weekend there is the 30th annual Old Hickory Holiday Open House at the Old Hickory Antique Center 109 County Route 38.
This year will be a little different because they will be doing a special benefit for one of their "family." Kim is 30 years old and she received a stat med call halfway through her rehearsal dinner the night before her wedding.
She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and is possibly facing a double mastectomy. So instead of enjoying her new life with her husband, she is getting Chemo treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
So during the Old Hickory Holiday Open House this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, they are running raffles and more to assist this newly married couple with medical bills and travel expenses to and from Sloan Kettering.
It's events like this that help me to put things into proper perspective. I have to remind myself, that when I think that things are going tough and I start to get down about my situation, there are people (like Kim) that are facing so much more,
