Word is fishing is pretty strong around the Greater Binghamton area this spring.  Everyone has a favorite fishing place or two but yet most people are usually open to suggestions.  Aside from friends and family, I always find it's best to talk with local bait shops as they have the most knowledge of where to go, where you can run and where you cannot and what to look for.

Here are a few favorite fishing spots that you may or may not know about:

Susquehanna River between Binghamton and Owego -  It's known as New York's best kept secret for smallmouth.  I've also heard a pretty good place to get pike and walleye.

Beaver Pond in Erin -  If you're looking for an excellent selection of warm water species including  rainbow and brown trout, largemouth bass, bluegill and yellow perch, check out Park Station Lake (or Beaver Pond), located inside Chemung County's 500-acre park in Erin, NY.  The maximum depth of this 100 acre pond averages 16 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 36 feet, along a one mile shoreline.  Note that Park Station Campground is closed through May 20, 2016 as they are updating their electrical system.

Sherburne area -- The Sherburne NY area is known for great trout fishing in its' reservoirs and streams. The area is also famous for some fantastic fly fishing with Searsville Lake a favorite.
