Troopers say a person is dead following a Tuesday morning crash in eastern Broome County.

According to state police, the crash happened in the area of 1820 State Route 7 in Harpursville around 9:30 a.m.

Troopers say the car went off the south shoulder of the road and struck a tree, killing 32-year-old Lance Weiss, of Harpursville, who was a passenger of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was taken to Wilson Hospital and is in stable condition.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
