In New York, fall isn’t just a season. It’s a mission. When the air turns crisp, people go looking for their cozy beverage, warm pastry, or country-drive moment. To figure out where New Yorkers actually go when fall cravings kick in, Gunther Volkswagen Delray Beach surveyed more than 3,000 people and the results are very on brand.

Where do the locals go for that official first taste of autumn?

#1 Balthazar Bakery in New York City

Balthazar isn’t just a bakery it’s fall in pastry form. Warm buttered croissants, spiced cookies, pumpkin tarts, people enjoying their cappuccinos like they’re in a movie. There’s always a buzz there, but once October hits ,it turns into cinnamon-scented happiness. Even if you’re just getting something to go, it feels like you’ve treated yourself.

#2 Indian Ladder Farms in Altamont

If you want fall energy, Indian Ladder is it. Apple trees glowing under cloudy skies, hot cider in hand, hayrides rolling in the background it’s like stepping straight into a postcard. You don’t even have to buy anything to get the full seasonal effect. Just walking around the grounds makes you feel like fall officially “arrived.”

#3 Everyman Espresso in New York City

Not everyone wants orchards and hay bales, some people just want a good latte and a window seat. Everyman Espresso is that kind of spot. It’s a little hipster in the best way, and it makes even the most hectic morning feel a little slower. When the city starts turning gold and everyone pulls their scarves back out, a sip of espresso hits different.

Local Spots Beat the Chains

Starbucks has its pumpkin spice army, but according to this poll, New Yorkers prefer real character over cookie cutter type branding. Whether it’s a centuries old farm or a tiny café on a busy block, fall is best served local.
