New York State Electric and Gas says scammers are again trying to pass themselves off as NYSEG workers.

Officials say the new scam attempts are said to involve a call explaining an overcharge has been made on a bill and the customer needs to provide some more information to get a credit on a future invoice. 

In addition, the caller sometimes threatens the customers with cutting their service unless an immediate payment is made over the phone.

Customers should never give out personal or account information to unsolicited callers. 

Anyone who is uncertain if a call is legitimate or who has questions about their account is encouraged to call the phone number on the bill.
