Mayor Linda Jackson (R) and Deputy Mayor Cheryl Chapman (D) both shared and/or "liked" posts with the message: "White Lives Matter."

The women issued a joint apology after it was brought to pubic attention that the term in the shared posting has been used to promote some White Supremacy dogma.

The Broome County Democratic Committee days ago called for the resignation of both officials.

Jackson and Chapman said they had no intent to promote racism and believe all lives matter.  The apology said they had taken advice from diversity groups and community leaders following the reaction to the posts and will be participating in diversity workshops and training.

The incident lead to a protest in the Village on July 2 before the Democratic Committee called for the resignation of the Village leadership.
