A single-family home on the North Side of Endicott was damaged by a fire that apparently started while a resident was out walking her dog.

Several fire departments assisted village firefighters in battling the blaze at 321 Squires Avenue. The fire was reported around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Endicott fire chief Joseph Griswold told WNBF News the first firefighters on the scene saw heavy smoke showing from all four sides of the two-story structure.

Griswold said the resident advised firefighters that the blaze was in the living room.

The fire chief said units from Endwell, Union Center, West Corners and Vestal responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes.

Griswold said the woman who lives in the house said she discovered the fire after she returned after she took her dog for a walk.

There was considerable fire damage to the living room area and to part of the front porch. There was smoke damage throughout the home.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here.
