End of an Era: The Corner Drug Store in Endicott to Close After 87 Years
For nearly nine decades, the Corner Drug Store in Endicott has stood as a comforting constant, a trusted neighbor, a gathering place, and a lifeline for local families. But on June 26, 2025, that chapter will come to a close.
After 87 incredible years of serving the community, the Corner Drug Store, an independent pharmacy, will shut its doors for the final time.
A Career Built on Heart and Dedication
Francis Magee, a passionate and devoted pharmacist, began his journey at the Corner Drug Store in 1954, working shoulder to shoulder with the original owner, Phil Colella. What started as a job soon became a life’s calling, not just for Francis, but also for his son, Patrick Magee.
Patrick, now the current President, Owner, and Supervising Pharmacist, spent over four decades working alongside his father, dedicating 30 years of his career to serving customers as a pharmacist in his own right.
A Difficult Decision Made with a Heavy Heart
Patrick says this decision was not made lightly. He explored every possible avenue to keep the Corner Drug Store running. “The memories I’ve made with our wonderful employees and loyal customers will always hold a special place in my heart as I move forward to a new chapter in my life,” Patrick shares.
However, the reality of the business climate has made it impossible for Patrick to continue to operate the Corner Drug Store.

The Rising Challenges of Independent Pharmacy Life
Over the years, running a small, independent pharmacy has become increasingly difficult. Patrick points to several factors: declining prescription reimbursements from insurance companies, rising costs of goods, and a shift in consumer habits with more people turning to online shopping. The closure of the gift shop was one of many tough choices made in recent years to stay afloat.
Continuing to Serve Until the Final Day
Despite the upcoming closure, Patrick is committed to providing uninterrupted service through June 26. The Corner Drug Store will keep regular hours and offer its usual pharmacy services. A final clearance sale on home health care supplies, orthopedic supports, and medical items will also take place.

Looking Out for the Community Even in Goodbye
To ensure that no customer is left without care, all pharmacy prescription records will be securely transferred to CVS at 1008 Union Center Maine Highway in Endicott (West Corners) on June 26. Until then, Patrick will be available to personally help with any questions about prescriptions or records.
