Southern Tier Olympian Emily Mackay Is an Inspiration
On Monday, February 24th, Binghamton University celebrated the 20th-anniversary of the Women's Athletics luncheon with a record-breaking turnout. This event celebrates Women's Athletics and brings in top athletes to speak to the next generation of female sports stars.
A Record-Breaking Turnout
This year's luncheon was a hit, with around 900 people joining in the activities. Community members, teachers, students, and even some young female athletes from local schools attended. It was electric, and you could feel the love and support for women's sports filling the air!
Raising Money for Women's Sports Scholarships
The Women's Athletics luncheon isn't just a good meal (a very good meal) and an inspiring speaker. It’s also a top-notch fundraiser for scholarships in women's sports at Binghamton University. Since kicking off in 2006, this event has brought in over half a million dollars, making a real difference in the lives of female athletes at Binghamton University.
Meet Emily Mackay, the Local Champ
This year's star speaker was Emily Mackay, a hometown sports hero who earned a bronze medal for Team USA at the last Olympics. Originally from Endicott and a proud graduate of Union-Endicott High School, Emily's journey took her across states before she found her way back to Binghamton University. With many NCAA All-American titles and a double degree, she's a true inspiration to us all!

Blaze Your Trail Like Emily!
Emily's recent victories include an awesome run at the Adrian Martinez Classic and a record-breaking performance at the USA Olympic Track and Field Trials. This has put her on the map and made her a hero for every young female athlete out there. Her story isn't just a great local news story, it's also sign of hope for women in sports everywhere, proving that with determination, you can achieve anything.
