Motorists in downtown Binghamton are complaining about the exceptionally poor condition of one heavily-used thoroughfare.

Conditions of a section of Lewis and Washington streets between East Clinton and State streets were rough before winter.

Portions of the pavement have continued to deteriorate over the last several weeks, prompting more complaints.

"Rough Road" signs have been put in place to warn drivers of the potentially-dangerous conditions.

One driver took to Twitter comparing the stretch of downtown roadway to a "war zone."

Motorists who drive through the area should see some relief soon. Local asphalt plants are about to open for the season and that section of downtown is expected to be one of the first areas crews will address.
