A Binghamton man faces several felony weapon and drug possession charges after police seized assault weapons, heroin and fentanyl from a city residence.

39-year-old Christopher Harmatuk of 38 Hazel Street was taken into custody on a Johnson City street Thursday.

Aurthorities that day executed a search warrant at the man's First Ward home. They discovered two dozen guns and an assortment of illicit drugs, including heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Harmatuk's arrest was announced Monday afternoon at Binghamton City Hall.

Harmatuk has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in Broome County Jail.

Binghamton police chief Joseph Zikuski said investigators don't know why Harmatuk had assembled the arsenal.

Zikuski said he doesn't know whether there will be more arrests.

The case is being investigated by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force.
