Technical difficulties temporarily closed the AMC Theatres in the Town Square Mall in Vestal but the problem is being resolved.

Word of the unexpected closure of AMC Vestal Town Square 9 caused concern among moviegoers, including folks who were looking forward to Thursday's opening of "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker."

But the multiplex on the Vestal Parkway will resume operations soon.

Ryan Noonan, AMC Theatres director of corporate communications, said the closure was the result of a "networking error."

Noonan Tuesday afternoon said the problem was being resolved. He said he expected operations would be back to normal Tuesday evening or by Wednesday morning, at the latest.

Noonan said people who had purchased movie tickets online were automatically issued refunds.

Although he was unable to provide specific technical information on what caused the network error, he said the problem is "very infrequent."
