I want to save as many of my son's special memories as possible, but don't want to just tuck them away in a box that will just get dusty and so this not-so-crafty mom decided to try to make a Christmas ornament out of some of those special things and although I'm craft challenged, it was a huge success!

My husband, Jay, and I scoured stores for what felt like forever for the perfect 'baby's first Christmas' ornament, but we didn't find one that spoke to both of us, so we decided to make our own, using some of our son John's things from the hospital where he was born.

I wanted to get super fancy and make the ornament in a glass ball, but Jay reminded me that we want our little guy to be able to hold his ornament without worrying about it breaking and suggested we look for a plastic one instead. We found one at the local craft store and the best thing about it is that with a quick twist of the wrists, it opens into half spheres, making it much easier to put things inside.

We placed John's blue and pink hospital hat, ankle bracelet and footprint into the ornament, using double stick tape to hold things in place and then we sealed the ornament up and Voilà! Making this ornament was easier than you'd imagine and now we have a first Christmas ornament for our little guy that holds special memories and is something he'll be able to keep forever.
