Deposit Residents Have Deadline for Referendum on Police Department

Residents in the Village of Deposit have 30 days to petition if they want a referendum before the plug is pulled on their police force and justice court. 

The Village Board had a public hearing November 12 for comment on the proposed dissolving of the police department, turning law enforcement over to the Broome County Sheriff’s office and having court operations held in Sanford. 

Officials are looking at the cuts to save money and hold down property taxes.

In addition to working with the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, Village officials are talking to the Sheriff’s Office in Delaware County since Deposit is situated in both counties.
