Dense Fog Presents Driving Difficulties in Twin Tiers

The National Weather Service in Binghamton is warning of travel difficulties through the morning October 14 with reports of very dense fog around the region.

NOAA reports that visibility has dropped to less than a quarter mile in many areas as the dense fog formed across the Twin Tiers after midnight.

Forecasters say the thickest fog is being reported primarily in the valleys and along the rivers, but patches are also impacting mid and higher elevations.

Motorists are reminded to be prepared for rapidly changing visibility as they move in and out of fog banks while driving through mid-day in some areas.  Commuters should allow for extra time to get where they are going, put headlights on low beam and leave plenty of space between vehicles.

NOAA says the fog is expected to gradually lift and dissipate by mid to late morning.
