Sheriff’s officials say 41-year-old Matthew Baxter of Franklin was partially ejected when his truck crashed on Dunk Hill Road.  He was airlifted to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.

The investigation is continuing but Sheriff’s officials say they believe excessive speed was a contributing factor when Baxter lost control of his vehicle. The truck hit a culvert, became airborne and overturned before hitting a tree with the roof of the vehicle.

A dog riding in the truck at the time of the crash was apparently not hurt and turned over to Baxter’s friend to be cared for.

The authorities say charges are pending.
