"Right now, you are the one everyone has to beat." Those words were said to Crystal Bowersox by Simon Cowell on the ninth season of American Idol.

As it turned out, someone would beat Bowersox, but she would still finish the season in an impressive second place and would be the first female to make it to the American Idol finale since 2007 when Jordan Sparks won.

Born in Ohio in 1985, Bowersox performed her first professional singing act at the age of ten and hasn't stopped performing since. Bowersox shared her story of resilience on American Idol with tales of being diagnosed with type one diabetes at the young age of six as well as her teen years spent living in poverty and begging for insulin.

Life began to turn around for Bowersox in 2006 when the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs asked Bowesox to represent Chicago folk musicians in a sisters cities music program in Birmingham. Then, in 2007, Bowersox went on an independent tour of cafes traveling through the United States and abroad.

Bowersox auditioned for American Idol in 2009. Her song of choice was "Piece of My Heart" and she sang it with such conviction that guest judge Shania Twain said Bowersox had a "raw, natural talent."

In May of 2010, Bowersox took second place in the American Idol season nine, second only to Lee DeWyze.

Now, Bowersox is coming to Binghamton and we would love to send you and a friend to her show. Bowersox will be performing at Touch of Texas on Friday, March 24. Want to go? Fill out the entry form below for the chance to win a pair of tickets!

Winners will be drawn at random and notified of their winning by phone no later than Tuesday, March 7. Standard contest rules apply. This is a 16+ show and a responsible adult must accompany any guest under the age of 21.
