Almost instantly after learning that the great Merle Haggard passed away due to complications from pneumonia on his 79th birthday yesterday, country stars flocked to social media to pay their respects to the man who had such a huge impact in their lives and careers.

Haggard's son shared the news of Merle's passing with the world in this gut-wrenching Facebook post:

A week ago dad told us he was gonna pass on his birthday, and he wasn't wrong. A hour ago he took his last breath...
