Cornell Cooperative Extension Gives Out Masks to Broome Farmers

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County is giving out hand sanitizer and face masks to local farms at no cost for distribution to farmers, their employees, local farm stands and farmers markets. 

The supplies will be distributed May 12 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Whitney Point Fair Grounds, TASTE NY at Cornell Cooperative Extension on Upper Front Street and Alice Palmer Elementary School on Main Street in Windsor.

Farmers who can’t make it to those locations can call the office to set up a time for pickup at Cornell Cooperative Extension Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The main office can be reached during those times at (607) 772-8953. 

Meanwhile, Broome County is no longer taking donations of personal protective equipment at the Oakdale Mall.

Instead, N-95 masks, gloves, homemade cloth masks and other protective equipment can be donated at the Emergency Services building at 3006 Wayne Street in Endwell.

County Executive Jason Garnar says people really stepped up five or six weeks ago when the shortage of PPE was “really bad” and 275,000 items have been donated.

Donations are still being accepted at the Emergency Services facility in Endwell Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
