The Coronavirus pandemic has hurt most businesses, especially small businesses. Movie theaters have been closed in New York State since mid-march.

A locally owned movie theater in Endicott is going to close temporarily, so they will still be in business once movie theaters are allowed to allow patrons inside. Cinema Saver in Endicott has had to adapt to the restrictions that Governor Cuomo put in place.

To make some money over the last few months, the movie theater started selling concessions curbside so people would be able to have popcorn, candy, and slushies to enjoy at home while watching movies there during the lockdown.

On the Cinema Saver’s Facebook page, the owners say they are expecting movie theaters to remain closed for the rest of 2020. They make reference to their P.P.L. loans and money from an extra mortgage, evaporating at what they call an “alarming rate”. So they decided the best thing to do would be to close all operations, including the curbside concessions, after October 25th so they can save money to reopen once New York State deems it safe to do so.

On their post, they say that they will continue to honor private parties that have already been booked, unless New York State changes the amount of people that can be gathered in one place.

If you've never been to the Cinema Saver, it is an old style movie theater that shows movies that have already completed their runs in the big theaters. I've been to the Cinema Saver a couple of times and it is definitely family friendly fun at affordable prices. In fact, the movie ticket prices are about 1/3 what you would pay at the chain theaters, and the concession candy is also about a third of what you would pay at one of the major cinemas.

It’s also a great place to hold children's birthday parties where kids can watch a movie, enjoy the refreshments, and everything else that Cinema Saver has to offer, without the parents that are throwing the party having to remortgage their homes.

You can still help show support for the Cinema Saver by taking advantage of their curbside concessions, the last day for those will be October 25th.
