Celebrating National Girls And Women In Sports Day: Inspiring Stories Of Success
February 5th is "National Girls and Women in Sports Day." It's a annual celebration that honors the achievements of girls and women sports and acknowledges the power of sports to unlock their limitless potential.

I would like to honor three women in my life. My daughter's Riley and Tara along with my on-air partner, Traci Taylor.
My daughter, Riley, has always had a love of sports. She is a hockey and football fanatic. She also loves the Kansas City Chiefs and it has NOTHING to do with Taylor Swift. The only Chiefs game she's ever been to, was the one they lost in Buffalo.
Riley played volleyball in high school and received an award for having the most character on her varsity volleyball team. She also played basketball and her nickname was "Buckets" for the sweetest three-point shot for her stature.
She still plays volleyball recreationally at the YMCA. Riley was also my first Chuck-a-Puck assistant at the Binghamton Senators hockey games. I'm hoping she will join me again soon.
My daughter, Tara's love of sports is different because it has more to do with the "business" side of it. She tried softball when she was very young She also tried her hand at soccer, lacrosse and bowling but decided that she would rather be a performer than a player.
Tara has worked for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies as part of the Carousel Crew for the past three years and will be a part of the crew again this summer. She has been a fill-in woman in the stands emcee for the Binghamton Black Bears for the last 3 years.
Both girls are on the Sports Wall of Fame display at Chenango Valley High School.
Finally, I honor Traci Taylor. She ran track until her left knee literally cracked open when she suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL) tear.
She still holds the school record at her school in Upstate New York for the high jump and 50 yard hurdles. Yes, all 5 feet of her boingy, springy self was a track star. Traci has proven that it's not your size but your spunk.
They are the women in sports that I'm honoring today. What about you?
