A woman was injured when the vehicle she was driving crashed into a New York State Police troop car following a chase that started in Broome County.

Authorities say 21-year-old Kayla Vanderpool of Adams has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. She faces several other charges in connection with the pursuit that started around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Police were sent to Route 17 in Binghamton after someone called 911 to report a car was traveling the wrong way on the expressway.

A 2005 Volvo driven by Vanderpool reportedly drove off at a high rate of speed. It turned around on the highway and struck a 2006 BMW. The driver of the other car was not hurt.

The police pursuit was terminated because of safety concerns. The suspect car later was spotted on the Vestal Parkway. It was then pursued into Tioga County.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop after it hit a state police troop car in a low-speed collision at Front and William streets in the village of Owego.

Vanderpool was taken to Binghamton General Hospital for treatment of facial injuries.

Police say she'll be cited for several vehicle and traffic violations, including speeding. Vanderpool's car allegedly reached speeds of 110 mph in a 50 mph zone in Vestal.
