We hear all the time about people moving away from New York to find greener pastures. But believe it or not, there are many people that end up in New York and decide to call the Empire State it's home.

According to a survey by Joybird, 60% of New Yorkers are like,  "I've always lived here, and I'm not going anywhere." Despite about 40% of them thinking about moving because of money, most of them are like, "It's all good – I'm staying put."

It turns out, the average American packs up and moves about eight times in their life, all for different reasons like job opportunities, finding a better place to live, or just looking for a change of scenery.

It seems like finding a place to live that fits our needs, finding a job, or dealing with money stuff are what make people say, "Alright, time for a change of address." About a quarter of people say money – or lack of it – is the main reason they moved last time.

Money is a pretty big deal when it comes to picking where we live. High living costs scared off about 30% of people from moving to their dream locations. Even with all the remote work happening, most residents are still not letting it sway where they choose to live.

When it comes to worrying about things like natural disasters and the environment, nearly half of the people don't really factor that into their moving plans. It looks like more than half of Americans are thinking of picking up and moving within the next five years. A big chunk of them would leave if the cost of living spiked by even 10-30%.
