Law enforcement agencies around the region are helping in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day October 23 in a effort to properly dispose of unwanted, outdated or unused medications.

The one-day focus is held regularly to raise awareness of the problem of dangerous drug falling into the wrong hands or polluting the environment through improper disposal.

In Broome County, prescription and over-the-counter drugs that can include anything from aspirin to controlled substances like Oxycodone and sharps can be turned in from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Broome County Sheriff’s office behind Broome Community College, the Johnson City Elks Lodge on Watson Boulevard in Johnson City, Whitney Point Fire Department, United Health Services across from Binghamton University on the Vestal Parkway East, the West Windsor Fire Department, the West Endicott Fire Department and the Broome County Sheriff’s Deposit Substation.
