Broome Residents Asked to Keep COVID Contact Diary & Call 211 For Mask Info.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says it would be a good idea for residents to keep a log, updated every 14 days, recording where they have been and who they have had contact with. 

The advice comes as two more advisories are issued after workers at two Broome businesses test positive for the coronavirus.

Broome County is currently putting together a larger panel of trackers to interview people who test positive for the coronavirus to trace down where they have been and who may have been in contact with them and possibly also infected.  So far there are two dozen members of the tracing team, which started off with ten members when the pandemic began to show itself in the region.

Over the weekend, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced 1.5 million cloth masks had been provided to the state to be distributed to the public.

At 8 p.m. April 17, the Governor’s order mandating everyone going out in public areas where social distancing is not possible must wear a mask or face covering went into effect. 

Since then, there have been questions as to where people can get masks or even bandanas as supplies are low or non-existent.  Broome County officials say residents should call the United Way's regional help information line: 211.
