Broome County is reporting another coronavirus-related death at the nursing home it owns and operates.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar June 1 announced a man in 70s who lived at the Willow Point Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Vestal had died, bringing the county death toll from the pandemic to 44.  The County reported five new cases of COVID-19 June 1, bringing the total to 559.

Coronavirus cases and deaths in other counties in the region remain fairly steady.  Tioga and Delaware County numbers were unchanged from the weekend.  Tioga County had 142 cases and 21 deaths and Delaware remained at 73 coronavirus cases and 4 deaths.  Chenango County reported one new case, bringing its pandemic total to 133.  There have been five deaths in Chenango County.

New York State is reporting the lowest positive test results of the pandemic.  Governor Andrew Cuomo says of 50,000 people tested on May 31, 2% came back positive for the coronavirus.  The number of daily deaths has also hit its lowest number since the outbreak began in March with 54 deaths reported June 1.  New York had 941 new cases for a total of 371,711 COVID-19 cases.
